Today, we introduce you to our new mental health counselor, Chas, a passionate advocate for those struggling to find their voice. Born and raised in the heart of Saint Louis, Missouri, Chas's journey is one deeply embedded in authenticity, support, and a desire to see everyone around her thrive and find their path. She is a proud mother of an AUSOME baby boy and is an enthusiast of activities like skating, music, kickboxing, and much more. She is all about balancing life between work, play, and creativity!

The Calling of Therapy

My journey to becoming a mental health counselor sprouted from my innate ability to make people feel safe and comfortable in challenging times or while making daunting decisions. My empathy and non-judgmental approach led me to realize that the qualities I exuded were fundamentals taken up by therapists, and that ignited my pursuit in this field. My heart has always been set on spreading love and support, and what better way to do it than through therapy?

About My Therapy Style

Equipped with a variety of therapeutic techniques, I am well-prepared to assist my clients on their path to personal growth and healing. These techniques each have their unique benefits, and I am fluent in utilizing them according to each client's needs:

Motivational Interviewing is a counseling approach designed to motivate individuals toward positive behavioral change. This form of therapy is particularly useful for individuals who are hesitant or resistant to change, making it an effective tool in managing Substance Use Disorders alongside traditional treatments.

Person-centered therapy is all about creating a supportive environment that encourages clients to find their solutions. This approach is based on a deep level of respect for the individual and their ability to find their path, which aligns with my beliefs and attitude towards counseling.

Gestalt therapy encourages clients to stay in the present and to self-reflect. As a counselor, it's my role to guide clients through this process of increased self-awareness and acceptance.

Solution-focused therapy is a goal-driven, short-term therapy that focuses more on the present and future conditions of the client's life rather than delving into past experiences.

These techniques allow me to treat a variety of mental health disorders effectively, including Substance Use Disorders, Personality Disorders, ADHD, and PMADs (Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders). I am especially driven to use my expertise in effecting positive change in the black community, particularly in our children! By providing a safe, non-judgmental space, I help them explore their thoughts and feelings, building resilience and emotional intelligence from a young age.

Guided by Authenticity

When you step into a therapy session with me, you can expect authenticity, a sense of humor, and a hint of challenge. You'll find me enthusiastic and genuine, shining a light to guide you along your path while letting you take the reigns. This is about YOU, after all.

Thoughts on the Future

When it comes to the long-term view, I confess I'm not entirely sure about where the journey leads. What I hold onto without a doubt, though, is my dedication to my clients. If you've been hesitant about starting therapy, remember that it is about what YOU need. Finding the right fit sometimes means exploring multiple options!

And now for a Fun Fact...

Do you know I'm creative at heart? I adore everything related to fine arts! So yes, beyond this professional persona, there is a woman who loves to immerse herself in art!
