Learning Disorder Testing

Is your child struggling in school, despite their best efforts? It can be difficult to watch your child face ongoing academic challenges, and you want to understand what’s getting in the way of their success. At Healing Spaces, we offer comprehensive learning disorder and educational assessments for school-aged children. Our goal is to get to the root of your child’s educational difficulties, whether it’s dyslexia, ADHD, a specific learning disorder, or another challenge.

Our evaluations go beyond academics. We recognize that poor school performance can affect your child’s emotional well-being, behavior, and social relationships. That’s why our assessments take a holistic approach, exploring not only learning and cognitive skills, but also emotional, behavioral, and social needs. With a clear diagnosis and personalized recommendations, we’ll work with you to create a plan that supports your child’s growth and helps them thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Our Comprehensive Approach to Learning Assessments

At Healing Spaces, we believe that every child deserves a thorough and individualized evaluation. Our comprehensive approach to assessment is designed to reveal the full picture of your child’s strengths and challenges, academically and in their emotional, behavioral, and social development.

We begin with an in-depth intake process to understand your child’s history, school experiences, and unique concerns. Our assessments include standardized academic and cognitive testing, as well as measures of attention, memory, executive functioning, and processing speed. We also evaluate emotional well-being, behavioral patterns, and social interactions, recognizing that school struggles often impact more than just grades.

Collaboration is key. We gather input from parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in your child’s life to ensure we’re considering all perspectives. The result is a detailed, easy-to-understand report with clear diagnoses (if appropriate), practical recommendations, and a personalized plan to help your child succeed both in and out of the classroom.

With our comprehensive assessment, you’ll gain what you need to advocate for your child and support their growth.

Why a full evaluation matters

Autism is often misunderstood, and signs can show up in very different ways depending on age, gender, cultural background, and life experiences. That’s why at Healing Spaces, we take a comprehensive and culturally responsive approach, so you or your child receives the most accurate diagnosis and the right support.

Many people come to us because their experiences with autism don’t fit the “typical” picture. We specialize in:

  • Girls and AFAB individuals, who may present differently and often go overlooked or misdiagnosed for years.

  • Individuals who have learned to mask autistic traits until their challenges become harder to manage.

  • Culturally competent evaluations for BIPOC clients.

  • Differentiating autism from trauma, anxiety, or social difficulties, which can have overlapping features, while also recognizing that many disorders are diagnosed together.

Seeking a new autism diagnosis can feel overwhelming or even scary. At Healing Spaces, your privacy and safety are our top priorities. Any information in your chart will only include what is legally required, and all details you share with us are treated with the highest level of confidentiality. We strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your experiences without fear or judgment. Ready to gain clarity and take the next step? Schedule your comprehensive evaluation today and get answers you can trust.

Who Can Benefit from Learning Disorder & Educational Testing

If your child is struggling in school despite their best efforts, a comprehensive educational assessment can provide the answers you need. This process is ideal for children who find reading, writing, or math especially challenging, whose grades don’t reflect their true potential, or who seem frustrated, anxious, or withdrawn in academic settings. Assessment is also helpful for students who have difficulty staying focused, organizing their work, or completing assignments; signs that may point to ADHD or executive functioning concerns.

Our evaluations are also valuable for children who haven’t responded to typical classroom interventions or whose teachers have expressed ongoing concerns. Whether your child is showing signs of a learning disorder, attention difficulties, memory problems, or emotional and behavioral challenges linked to school, we can help you understand what’s happening and how to best support their success both academically and personally.

Uncovering the Full Picture: What We Assess

Our evaluations are designed to pinpoint the specific barriers to your child’s academic success by looking far beyond surface-level grades. We assess core academic skills, including reading (Dyslexia), writing (Dysgraphia), and mathematics (Dyscalculia). To get a complete picture, we dive into the cognitive foundations of learning, such as language development, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and various types of memory. Understanding how your child processes and retains information allows us to see exactly why they might be struggling with specific subjects or classroom tasks.

We also take a close look at attention and executive functioning, the "management" skills of the brain. This includes assessing for ADHD and evaluating how well your child can organize their thoughts, follow multi-step directions, and manage their time. We measure processing speed and working memory to see if your child is struggling to keep up with the pace of the classroom or if they are becoming overwhelmed by the volume of information they receive. By identifying these underlying cognitive patterns, we can determine if a child’s difficulties are rooted in a specific learning disorder, an attention-related challenge, or a combination of both.

Our assessment process recognizes that a child is more than just their test scores. We evaluate the emotional, behavioral, and social impact of their school experiences, as academic frustration often leads to anxiety, low self-esteem, or behavioral outbursts. We want to ensure these needs are addressed just as thoroughly as the academic ones. By looking at the whole child, we provide a comprehensive profile that helps parents and teachers understand not just what the child is struggling with, but how those struggles are affecting their overall happiness and development.
