What is a psychological evaluation?
"A psychological assessment can include numerous components such as norm-referenced psychological tests, informal tests and surveys, interview information, school or medical records, medical evaluation and observational data (APA, 2013)." A psychological evaluation or assessment can be used to assess various areas of functioning, including cognitive ability, social, emotional or behavioral functioning, academic achievement, or personality. These evaluations, conducted by psychologists, can be used to answer questions about the presence of any diagnoses or mental health disorders (e.g., depression), to understand the impact of trauma on one's life, to determine whether someone has cognitive or learning difficulties, etc. Each evaluation includes a report that details and interprets the evaluate results, and provides extensive recommendations for home, school, therapy, and/or any other appropriate interventions.
What are your rates?
The psychological evaluation not only includes the time spent administering the assessment measures, but also the initial interview, scoring and interpreting the results, consulting with providers (e.g., current therapists), preparing the comprehensive written report outlining the test results, relevant diagnoses, and recommendations, and time reviewing the results with caregivers. Rates are based on the type of evaluation you are requesting, accounting for the number of hours required by the psychologist(s) to complete the evaluation. Current evaluation packages include IQ only, ADHD rule out, full psychological, psychoeducational, and psychological + psychoeducational. Rates range from $700 (IQ only) to $1575+ for a full psychological or psychoeducational evaluation.
